You already eat 500gr of insects each year without knowing it…

Breaking news: You would already be eating 500gr of insects without knowing it!

Anyhow, those are the results found by Marcel Dicke, a worldwide known entomologist and professor at Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

According to his studies: You could find insects in almost all of your daily food. From coffee beans to juices, chocolate and bread, there are bugs everywhere in our food chain.

In the different food laws, there are limits of insects quantity allowed in food. For example, there is a limit on insect eggs and body parts you can find in juices, coffee, peanut butter, chocolate and flour

That’s not all, the red food colouring E120, called carmine, crimson lake or carminic acid, is made upon cochineal, a small insect raised in Mexico. It is raised on cactus and its price per kilogram is higher than gold. It is used in red candies, yoghurts and sausages.

Shellac is a resin secreted by the female lac bug and can be used as a shiny coating on apples and candies

The proof is that after all, eating insects is not that bad, above all if you like coffee, candies, bread, peanut butter, apple, chocolate…
